Club-focused software group Micropower has commenced a major push into the marina sector with the acquisition of leading marina management software provider Marina Focus.
It is the latest in a series of acquisitions by Micropower as it looks to cement its place as the country’s leading provider of integrated software and hardware solutions to the Australian member-based clubs sector. The undisclosed acquisition cost comprises a mix of cash and equity.
Marina Focus was established four years ago by IT industry veterans David Gore and Ray Turner. The software is installed at 33 marinas around Australia including all six marinas in the d’Albora Marinas chain.
The company has used the latest programming technologies to develop a streamlined, user-friendly marina management system which provides owners with the tools to successfully manage the marina and maximise revenue.
Micropower Chief Executive Officer Tony Kent said the acquisition of Marina Focus was a natural progression to the companies’ existing long-standing relationship.
“Marina Focus is a well respected business with a strong technical foundation which will provide the perfect complement to our existing suite of products,” Mr Kent said. “We have worked closely with the Marina Focus team for a number of years and look forward to a successful integration.”
Marina Focus founder David Gore said the decision to join forces with Micropower would give the company the resources required to reach its full potential.
“We have now reached the point where in order to develop Marina Focus we need to expand into export markets and clearly this will require more resources than we can provide under our current structure,” Mr Gore said.
“Micropower is the ideal partner for us in this endeavour because it already has a national sales force and is currently developing an export operation, leaving us able to concentrate more on product development to speed up the development of Marina Focus.”
The unique design of Marina Focus streamlines daily operations by providing operational staff with relevant information, automating time consuming procedures, allowing easy access to all historical records and eliminating duplications.
The software gives owners greater control by providing statistical analysis on occupancy, providing actual compared to potential revenue reports by berth type and berth and saving staff time by eliminating unnecessary functions.
Micropower has been pursuing a opportunities in the Australian and international clubs market following a series of acquisitions and a major restructuring which was finalised four months ago including the acquisition its Queensland and New South Wales agents and a merger with popular online golf resource iseekgolf.com.
The restructuring, which was driven by Mr Kent, also includes the appointment of experienced Brisbane businessman John Down as Chairman of the Board where he will join businessmen Richard Holzgrefe and Peter Jefferis.
Micropower’s core business is providing member-based clubs integrated business solutions to improve operating efficiencies and drive revenues. Products include software and hardware solutions for back office, financial, membership, functions, online and marketing programmes. The unlisted public company offers a suite of more than 30 products and already has more than 300 clients around Australia.
The aggregation of the Micropower business under one brand combined with the acquisition of iseekgolf.com will create a vertically integrated solution for the business’ core golf club clients and provide the foundation for an aggressive expansion into other types of clubs and member-based organisations, including gaming, sporting and private clubs and marinas.
